The feather is a powerful motif in many cultures, symbolising trust, honour and wisdom as well as escape and freedom. I like to think of a feather being uplifting, something to give you wings, to make you fly! I chose to represent the feather of a Kea because the South Island parrot is the kaitiaki of our surrounding mountains. Notoriously intelligent, cheeky and the consummate performer, it is the perfect talisman for Te Atamira; the stage, or platform for creativity." Fiona Garlick.

Local sculptor Fiona Garlick was commissioned to create Te Atamira's inaugural art edition to support fundraising the fit out of 21 spaces for creativity. By investing in this art edition you are supporting Te Atamira to take flight and become an arts and culture facility.

A sculptor based in Arrowtown, Fiona works predominantly in bronze and has exhibited widely across New Zealand. Her work is held in private collections both in New Zealand and overseas. Along with her sculpture practice she has been teaching art to local children for the last five years.
